How Passive Optical LAN Works

Passive Optical LAN (POL) is a fiber-based local area network architecture that replaces traditional copper-based Ethernet switching systems with passive optical components. Built on passive optical network (PON) technology, POL delivers high bandwidth, simplified infrastructure, and energy-efficient performance for enterprises, campuses, and large facilities.

Unlike conventional LAN systems that rely heavily on powered switches and extensive copper cabling, Passive Optical LAN uses optical fiber and passive splitters to distribute network connectivity across buildings or campuses.
